Many people suffering with sleep deprivation need to consult their physicians and other health care professionals to ensure relief. According to sleep consultant, Dr. Dev Banerjee talking to BBC Newsbeat said: “Sleeping tablets and related medication and sleep aids can physically and psychologically be addictive. Thus, people can have this believe that people have a belief that ‘if I do not take the sleeping pill I will not be able to sleep.’ This may not be true. Using better sleeping aids such as adjustable beds can find it more therapeutic. “
“Others who maybe taking drugs to sleep need to consult the general physician and ask for reference to see the Cognitive behavioral Therapy specialists or other psychologists.”
Dr. Banerjee said: “Looking at getting better sleep and manage sleep disorder maybe just mind related too. Look upon sleep differently. Use sleep aids that are non-addictive. Using adjustable beds can help you feel better as the variable positions can help get into a position that lulls you to sleep. Or the massage or heating feature of the adjustable bed can relax and unwind you.“
“Most doctors only recommend a change in medication and ask the person to come back again. There is other ways of enjoying better sleep. Lose weight, stop consumption of alcohol, try to sleep on their side and abstain from sedatives,” said Deepak Chopra, well being specialist.
Marianne Davey, Director of the British Snoring & Sleep Apnoea Association said: “Everyone needs to have a good night sleep at night and adjustable beds have been found to be effective in helping people sleep better and more restive.
